Old Time Music Jams

There are several old time music jams that occur in the New River Valey and surrounding areas.

The Tuesday Night Old Time Jam

This weekly event has become a veritable Blacksburg institution over the last dozen years or so. The Tuesday Night Jam is held at Gillies' Restaurant in downtown Blacksburg from 9PM to around midnight.

The Slow Jam

If you are relatively new to your instrument or not able to keep up with the tempo set at the big jam, you are welcome to come to the weekly Slow Jam sponsored by the newly formed Virginia Tech Bluegrass and Old Time Music Club. It is held on the Virginia Tech campus in room 116 of the Squires Student Center from 7-9PM immediately prior to the regular tuesday night jam.

The Roanoke Jam

Every Wednesday from 7PM to 10:30PM there is an Old Time jam at Mill Mountain Coffee and Tea in Roanoke.

The Narrows Jam

Recently, Chris Via has been organizing a great little jam at Anna's restaurant most thursday nights in Narrows, VA from 7-10PM. To get to Anna's, take 460 West until you come to the town of Narrows (about 45 minutes from Blacksburg). At the first traffic light in Narrows, turn right. When you get to the bridge, turn left and cross the river. This will take you into downtown Narrows. Anna's is on the right side in the middle of town.

Jamming at the Floyd Country Store

There are often old time jams upstairs at the Floyd Country Store in scenic Floyd, VA on Friday nights. Don't miss this chance for some authentic rural culture!
